Lake Hodges is easily one of my favorite kayaking destinations; if it were not for the beautiful views, I'd paddle there exclusively for the convenient launch point. Open for boating Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday, the reservoir is situated in a valley that is bordered to the west by the Del Dios from paddling.net

From the parking area next to the I-15 freeway, you ride the two-way paved trail under the freeway to the Lakeside trail head. You can either go left and stay on the fire road or make a short but steep climb up to the Escondido City sewer right of way. This is all dirt and much less crowded that th from dirtworld.com
