In 1940 Dick and Mac McDonalds' Bar-B-Que in San Bernardino, Calif., was a typical drive-in restaurant with car hops. In 1954, a Multimixer salesman, Ray Kroc called on the McDonalds to try to sell them a mixer. He learned that the McDonald brothers were looking for a nationwide franchising agent.   from patch.com
