The Mystic River is the name of a short river in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the United States. Its name derives from the Native American word "Missi-Tuk", which translates to "great tidal river", and it lies to the north of and flows approximately parallel to the Charles River. Though far from a wilderness experience, the upper Mystic River is a great place for a half day urban adventure if you are in the area. In all but the highest water (flood/spring) conditions, it is easy to put in upstream (just below the lower of the Mystic Lakes), paddle as far as you are inclined from paddling.net
